Thierry Vandorselaer

Dr Vandorselaer is a specialist in refractive laser surgery for the correction of visual disorders such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia.

He obtained his medical degree from the Université catholique de Louvain (UCL) in 1997 and specialised in ophthalmology at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and the University of Antwerp (UIA) between 1997 and 2001.

In 1998, during his training at the University of Antwerp, one of the first institutions in Belgium to be equipped with an excimer laser; Dr Vandorselaer discovered this technology and oriented his practice towards refractive surgery, with the objective of providing patients with more comfortable vision and an improved quality of life in their daily lives.

From 2001 onwards, he became a consultant responsible for refractive and corneal surgery clinics at the University of Antwerp (UZA), as well as cataract, refractive and corneal surgery clinics at the Université de Bruxelles (CHU Saint-Pierre and CHU Brugmann). For 18 years, he participated in the training of ophthalmology physicians before transitioning to private practice, where he continues his activity as a trainer in refractive surgery.

At the same time, he founded Vision Clinic in Brussels, a multidisciplinary centre dedicated to the management of ocular conditions, which he equipped in 2009 with a private operating theatre fitted with an excimer laser.

He is one of the Belgian pioneers of corneal cross-linking (CXL) for the treatment of keratoconus, a procedure he has been performing since 2009.
