Answers to patient questions

  • ADHD

Hello, 45 year old woman, diagnosed with ADHD at 42, on Elvanse 30 mg for the past year after initially on Medikinet 30 mg which had to be switched off due to high anxiety and mood swings side effects kicked in. I have been experiencing quite a lot of blurry vision and realize my eyesight is deteriorating (mainly in reading and close range, which I didn't have before) in the past 6 months. I consulted an ophthalmologist who said it might be the side effects of the medication and that I don't need to change my glasses but do optometry exercises to support my eye focus capacity. Would any other specialist have a view on this being something they've encountered? Any suggestions on how to know what the right approach is? Thank you

    • 'Accodomation disorders' are classic (although rather rare) side effects of stimulants like the ones you mention. Discuss it with a psychiatrist.

Hello, I have had Occipital Neuralgia symptom for the first time 15yrs ago (on the left side). it then appears only once a year etc when i make sudden left head turns but never bothered me. However, 3 months ago, it started to appear even though i have not made any such sudden head movements, I have visited a neurologist who checked and confirmed that there is no other serious issue and prescribed me Redomex but asked to me to start it only if it starts to bother me, after this visit, i felt confident and didn't start medication. this settled down on its own and i no longer have this. however, i always feel slight discomfort on my left head side as if some sort of irritation or inflammation or i don't know how to express it. it feels someone is pulling a small nerve under my left eye or something between my left eye and left ear. there is no pain but a discomfort that it bothers me slightly. also, it aggravates through the day, meaning i don't have it early morning and it gets worse by the time i hit bed. I work on computer for 6-8 hours a day and go to workout 1 hour each day in gym. I am 30 years old male, lean built and no other health concerns to mention. i am planning to see ENT first, to rule out any sinusitis related problem. then i will see a neurologist if its like this. could you please recommend if i am on right track ? and if some suggestions/recommendations, please ? thank you in advance for the help, appreciate it the most.

    • If it really is occipital neuralgia (https://ichd-3.org/13-painful-cranial-neuropathies-and-other-facial-pains/13-4-occipital-neuralgia/) the treatment is with infiltrations (i.e. injections in a pain clinic), not drugs.

Diagnosed single mother, life fell apart, since GP stopped ADHD meds two months ago. What should I do?

    • Did you try talking to your GP about it...? Not enough information here to explain something as broad as a life falling apart I'm afraid. Good luck.
